Welcome to my Jeep pages. To dispell the "which came first" myth, the Jeep was named AFTER "Eugene" appeared on the King Features Syndicate cartoon series "Popeye" in 1938. The first Jeep was built for the U.S. Army in 1940 by the Bantam Car company. The army called the General Purpose vehicle the "Jeep" because like Eugene, it could go anywhere and do anything.
"EUGENE"
